E36 Tranny Mounts

To reduce the chances of a missed shift, installing stiffer  tranny mounts is a recommended (and inexpensive) upgrade for the E36 M3.   With only the minor modification of drilling out a few holes to enlarge them by about 1 mm, the stock tranny mounts from a Bavaria will fit perfectly.  Part # 23711102692  Cost is about $20. (You will need two of them)   You will also need  a wire feed welder to complete this procedure, but c'mon now, you know you've been wanting to buy one of those anyway!!  (Okay, I'm just kidding about the welder)   Anyway, Bob Stommel says it's only a one beer job as follows:

This is a one-beer job. Put the front end up on jack stands. Slide a floor jack under the gearbox and raise it until it supports the gearbox. Remove the nuts from the upper and lower rubber mount studs. Raise the floor jack a little to allow easy removal of the OEM mounts. Drill out the holes in the gearbox tabs and in the gearbox crossbrace 1 mm larger. Install new mounts. Lower gearbox down to position. Install nuts on new mounts. Finish last bit of beer in bottom of bottle.
